Watching Life in the streets of Havana

In October 1992, I was assigned to present the Cuban film festival, schedule in Salerno “Italy”, presented with pictures of Cuba in the cinemas foyers. So precisely 500five hundred years since the Columbus discovery, I filled up my suit case with film, and off I went to watch the unfolding of life in the streets of Havana.  However, with Ernst  Hemingway in my mind and many other stereotypes thoughts, I depicted a reality where time has stopped, and life is taken in a very personal way.

This pictures where taken between the 12th and the 30th of October 1992 with two Olympus OM1 cameras exposing Kodak TriX film. While in Cuba,  I happened to be the best man at a wedding, of somebody I have never met before, I was also the personal driver of the bride, who I haven’t met before, plus I turned into a chef at times, also a Malecon walker and a Salsa dancer, occasionally a photographer. All this can only happen In Havana Cuba.

Nell’ottobre del 1992 mi è stato assegnato il compito di presentare con le mie immagini il festival del cinema cubano, in programma a Salerno “Italia”. Così, esattamente 500 e cinquecento anni dopo la scoperta di Colombo, ho riempito la mia valigia di pellicola e sono andato a osservare lo svolgersi della vita nelle strade dell’Avana. Tuttavia, con Ernst Hemingway in mente e molti altri pensieri stereotipati, ho raffigurato una realtà in cui il tempo si è fermato e la vita è vissuta in un modo molto personale. Queste foto sono state scattate tra il 12 e il 30 ottobre 1992 con due fotocamere Olympus OM1 che esponevano la pellicola Kodak TriX. A Cuba sono stato anche il testimone al matrimonio di una persona che non avevo mai incontrato prima, l’autista personale della sposa, che non avevo mai incontrato prima, e in più mi sono trasformato a volte in chef, camminatore e ballerino , occasionalmente fotografo. Tutto questo può accadere solo all’Avana.
