the Rainbows Gallery
The Rainbows gallery is in the Queen Charlotte Islands, precisely in British Columbia very close to Alaska. It is indeed a real strange and quiet place the Rainbows gallery, with all those shoes stuck on the outside wall, marking an unknown path. No matter where I was in the islands, I always passed by the Rainbows gallery.
The Queen Charlotte Islands are the home of the Haida. A community that firmly believes that everything has a spirit to communicate with, and a strong belief that everything finds its way to return to its natural state. The totems in these images are returning to their primary state. Much of the original culture of the Haida has survived, probably for being geographically so remote, they have managed to maintain their identity without contamination.
This pictures were taken in the year 2000 with a Mamiya 7 and a Olympus OM 1, B&W film Kodak trix\ The color pictures of the Haida makes are Fuji Velvia color slides. The Saturday supplement of La Repubblica the Italian news paper dedicated 12 pages to this story in 2002.

La galleria Rainbows si trova nelle isole Queen Charlotte, precisamente nella British Columbia o, ancora più precisamente, quasi in Alaska. Era un posto davvero strano e tranquillo, la galleria Rainbows, con tutte quelle scarpe attaccate al muro esterno. Non importa dove andassi, passavo sempre davanti alla galleria Rainbows. Le isole Queen Charlotte sono la casa degli Haida. Una comunità che crede fermamente che ogni cosa abbia uno spirito con cui comunicare e che ogni cosa trovi il modo di tornare al suo stato naturale. I totem in queste immagini stanno tornando al loro stato primario. Gran parte della cultura originale degli Haida è sopravvissuta, credo per il semplice fatto che, essendo così remoti geograficamente, avevano pochissimi contatti con il mondo.
