La Bella Italia

The Grand Tour was a long journey through continental Europe undertaken by the rich European aristocracy.  The trend  started in the early the 17th century and intended to perfect the knowledge of the young rich aristocrats, making them ready for the high society. The so called grand tour, had an undefined duration and usually had Italy as its main destination. Naturally Rome was a mandatory stop.   The new mass tourism, follows almost exactly the ancient footsteps of the Grand Tour. Proposing culture increasingly within the reach of the masses.  These pictures are a very personal view of the Bella Italia grand tour, starting from Venice going down the Italic peninsula and finishing in the island of Sicily.    A necessary note is mandatory: Wolfgang von Goethe who was one of the promoters, of this grand tour trend,  he quoted in his book  “A journey to Italy” Italy without Sicily leaves no image in the spirit; only here is the key to everything.”
