In Ecstasy

Dervishes performing at the old  Sirkeci train station Istanbul, once the last stop of the Orient express.

During this dance the Dervishes rotate on themselves like tops and draw large circles in space thanks to their wide tunics that open like skirts due to the centrifugal force of the rotation, they are the link between earth and divine sky.   This happened at night but during the day, I was in a Turkish bazaar in the street, holding my  old Olympus pen camera “the reason to justify my curiosity” half size meaning 72 frames in a 35mm roll.   I was frantically searching for mystery and the surreal elements, confronting people very up close, obsessively. Finding out later while printing the mystery was there,  just like Antonioni’s Blow up.
