A passage through the Roman Empire

Exploring the ancient Roman empire, this is a journey in progress.  Ostia Antica the great Roman port known to be the largest in the all empire, it is where I began sailing the Mediterranean sea. The  great city of Cyrene on the Libyan cost capital of the ancient Mediterranean culture. The city was named after a spring, Kyre, which the Greeks consecrated to Apollo. It was also the seat of the Cyrenaics, a famous  school of philosophy in the 3rd century BC, founded by Aristippus, a disciple of Socrates. It was then nicknamed the “Athens of Africa”. In Libya the port of Apollonia on the Mediterranean sea, bordering with Egypt, where the legendary Cleopatra’s pools were curved on the lime stone.   In Lebanon visiting the city of Baalbek known as Heliopolis the city of the sun, and Byblos great port for all the silks and spices going to Rome.
